For those of us with a condition like Parkinson’s we know that there will be a gradual worsening as we go along. There are many facets to Parkinsons and every person experiencing it can be quite different in how the condition manifests itself. While there is no cure for Parkinsons – as yet – there are strategies and exercises that can assist in maintaining our abilities.
My feeling is that it would be easier for some to let go of things that have become too difficult and say that they can no longer do them. I, however, would encourage anyone with Parkinsons to do their best to retain at least some ability to continue to do the things we love.
If you love tramping, for instance and used to do six hour tramps, it may not be feasible to aim to do six hour tramps again. At least not right away. Starting with one hour tramp and gradually increasing the time and distance walked will hopefully assist in being able to increase to a point that is sustainable.
With this blog and now my podcast, I will perhaps at some point have to reduce the amount of words in a blog and perhaps write a script of some kind. At the moment, my blogs and my podcasts are pretty much ad lib. I do, however, at times write some topics down within the main topic, so that I can use them as a guide. I find that if I write too much down, it can cause my podcast to sound too scripted and wooden and the flow isn’t the same. The A.I. voice the programme gave me is horrible and doesn’t sound like me at all!
