For nearly four months now I have been struggling with at times excruciating pain in my left leg predominantly and at times in my left. I have been on a cocktail of drugs for the whole period and nothing really put a dent in the pain. Apparently, the source of the pain is in my spine where nerves are being squeezed due to a narrowing in the spinal canal, or something like that.
I have tried Physiotherapy and Acupuncture, and it seems any drug known to man. Nothing really seems to make a difference and the pain carries on. I have recently seen a Neurosurgeon and at first it was suggested by his Registrar that an injection might help. He consulted with the specialist and advised that there is nothing that will fix this except surgery. I am now on the surgery waitlist, which the surgeon said should be two to three months wait.
In the meantime I am on a cocktail of drugs which I am not that sure help and which have side-effects that I am not too happy about. I am now on the serious stuff too, with having to take morphine which feels like a heavy-duty drug. In the first few days, the morphine felt like it was taking care of my pain and I didn’t notice any unwelcome symptoms. However, I have recently noticed that my speech is really strange and faltering and I am more forgetful. I also have trouble finding words when it is usually something very easy and shouldn’t be a problem.
All these drugs and the anesthetic for the operation, while they are all necessary, I don’t like what it is doing to my brain and my communication.
I hope I can have the operation sooner rather than later and I can get back to making serious progress on regaining my fitness.
