A dress rehearsal for Parkies?

I commented to my husband this morning that I feel like my body is attacking me. Not only am I recovering from pretty major knee surgery, but I have another issue plaguing me. I find that if I sit and rest for a bit after walking around, that as soon as I stand up I get electric shock like pains shooting down both legs. They are very painful! Last night in the night I woke with pain around my hips and got up to go to the toilet. When I stood up the pain shot through both legs again and I had to pause before I took a step. I had to hold on to the end of my bed to get going.

I said that I felt like my body was giving me a dress rehearsal of what my future holds and I can tell you I do not like it one bit! It is very painful indeed and when I try to walk I get these pains every time.

I went to my surgeon and I think he said it was nerve pain from sitting for too long and from not walking properly for ages. He advised me to see my GP, which I did yesterday. GP has given me increased Amitriptyline tablets to take at night. I have to say, I didn’t see any benefit in them at all. In fact, I would say that over night and this morning the pain is even worse!

Went to a local Farmer’s Market this morning and although I was still in pain, walking around seemed to walk it off and then I was just left with backache! I am an absolute wreck at the moment!!!

Anyway, hoping as I get more active this will right itself.

It won’t come a moment too soon if it does!

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.

    1. Hi. I admit it doesn’t feel very fair at all. I saw my GP and he wasn’t keen on Gabapentin, but I am already on Amitriptyline so he has increased the dose on that to see if it helps. I actually have my own spa pool at home, but I emptied it before my operation as I knew I would be using it for a few months. I don’t think I would have the strength or feel safe to get into any spa pool at the moment, but hopefully soon. Hopefully as I start to walk about more and walk more normally things will settle down.
