Recently diagnosed with Parkinsons' this Blog is about my personal experience with getting a diagnosis, dealing with the diagnosis and what has helped me. It is hoped that by sharing my experiences, I can encourage others to take the step to seek a diagnosis and to find a way to 'live well' with a path we did not choose, but that we must walk. I call it "Parkies" because it makes it sound a little less serious and maybe even a bit "friendly" for if I cannot avoid the association I can perhaps find a way to walk with it.
When Parkies entered in my life and knocked upon my door
I thought I’d have to stop and that I’d bike no more
For I was finding getting home, could sometimes be too tiring
Something Parkies did to me by messing up my wiring!
So, I bought an e-bike shiny red to take out on the track
And if I tire getting home, it will help to get me back
I bought myself an e-bike it’s bright and shiny red
I thought I’d take a ride today and took it from it’s shed
A chilly day, but all was well, we took it in our stride
As off I headed happily, my husband by my side
My husband has a mountain bike, no motor on it’s frame
But he is fitter than I am and get’s there all the same
We biked along the cycle track, in chilly winter air
Our fingers numb, our bottoms too a chilly frozen pair
But getting out in Winter time, on local cycle ways
Is something that we like to do, to brighten up our days
Not for us, this sitting home and lazy watching telly
Or sitting round and scoffing food and filling up our belly
So Parkies entered in my life, it’s something I don’t like
But Parkies isn’t winning in this round, I still will ride my bike!
Share this round for anyone affected by Parkinson's
I work in health and have been with the same supportive team for over 7 years. They are all aware of my diagnosis and this helps tremendously especially while I get used to the idea of my diagnosis. My parents both had Parkinsons, so I guess my odds were higher than most.
