Today was my final check-in with my surgeon who operated on my troublesome knee. He was very pleased with the outcome of my surgery so far and encouraged me to keep exercising and making my body work and walk better after a significant surgery. I had some questions about some pains I have been having at the top of my leg and wondered if this indicated that I might need a hip replacement. He was able to point out that the additional pains I have been experiencing are very normal and luckily not at all indicative of having hip problems with arthritis and another possible operation. He said, with exercise, my body should start to come alive again and get fitter.
The countdown begins now for return to work. I start on 28/2/24 and am a bit nervous about going back. It has been three months and I haven’t had to engage my clinical self for all that time, so it will take a bit of time to get back into things.
My surgeon encouraged me to keep using the static bike and going for walks. I can now do about 2km, which doesn’t sound like much, but for someone who was not able to walk to the end of my driveway, it’s a big improvement.
I have a hair appointment this afternoon and have decided to walk there. It will probably do me good and I am going to try to incorporate a walk of some kind every day. I’m also going to use my static bike daily. I’ve also got to get hold of someone who runs a Tai Chi class and see if she thinks I will be able to do it. It has been recommended by many experts that Tai Chi has a lot of benefits including assisting with balance.
After seeing my surgeon I must say I feel better knowing from him that I am doing all the right things and he is happy with my progress.
Onwards and Upwards for recovery!
