Been for my WOF (Warrant of Fitness)

Today I had a catch-up with my Neurologist’s Parkinson Nurse and it was good to have a chance to meet face to face to talk about some of my latest issues.

I told her about the shooting pains I am experiencing down my legs and it appears that it is unlikely to be anything to do with my Parkies, but she thinks it could be something to do with the surgery. Perhaps a trapped nerve? Everyone seems to be playing a bit of a guessing game to be honest! She seemed to think as my body heals and I get more active that hopefully it will right itself. In the meantime she has advised me to do back to regular paracetamol three times daily with my other meds and paracodeine at night. Also, to try taking some Sinimet overnight if needed. No real comment on the Tramadol, but most medical personnel seem somewhat reluctant to promote it’s use.

I also raised the question of medical marijuana for pain. She advised that many find it beneficial for pain and anxiety, but that it is probably best used further down the track. So, that will have to wait for a bit. There’s always the greenhouse…

It seems most of what I am being told is to do my exercises and basically have a bit of patience as time seems to be the healer for most of what is going on. I only hope that I can get some better sleep before I have to go back to work at the end of next month. Can’t see me managing very well try to work and think with the amount of sleep I am not getting at the moment.

Check-up with the Physio tomorrow to check on knee progress.

Oh, and a little side note. Nurse reiterated that I am a ‘slow burner’ and doing well. Then she said the best thing she could say ‘Sue, if I didn’t already know you had Parkinson’s, I wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at you!’

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
