I stumbled across an interview with Michael J Fox today. This year marks 25 years of his foundation and 2.5 billion dollars raised in support of those with Parkinson’s and for research. He is so inspirational, and he is my Parkies hero.
My efforts with this blog are humbler, but hopefully I reach people that it helps along the way. I have been writing this blog for nearly five years and hope to keep doing so for many years yet. It made me think about what I do in this blog and more recently in my podcasts. I started my blog to help me to process what is happening to me and also, my hope was that in sharing my journey that I helped other people as well. I have always enjoyed it when people have commented on my posts and have said that reading my words resonated with them and that they felt I was someone that they could identify with.
I also have my podcast which I enjoy doing, but it has only been maybe a year since I started doing that. I wanted people to hear my voice and hopefully maybe feel a more personal connection in that way. I have also started another podcast which is very much in it’s infancy with only a few interviews so far, but it is called ‘Parkies Patter – a chat about all things Parkinson’s’. As the name suggests it is hosted by me, interviewing people with Parkinson’s and those that support them to give others a voice. I am only one voice out of many and I would love the opportunity to interview more people about their journey with Parkinson’s. So if you are interested, I would love to hear from anyone who would like to share their journey.
Hopefully, I will be able to continue with this blog for many more years and also with my podcasts.
It has been quite interesting to me how effective writing this blog and doing my podcasts has been for my own sense of wellbeing. It is a funny thing that often when I have written a blog piece or recorded a podcast, I will ask my husband what he thought of the latest offering. His usual response is something like ‘Yes, it was good’ then I might say “What was it about?” and he will say “I can’t remember!” and I often say, “neither can I!” To me that is a testament to what I have always said, that getting my thoughts and feelings out of my head and into my blog, takes it away from me and I can move on. I often have to go and listen to my podcast or read my blog to refresh my memory.
Have you ever thought of sending your thoughts and feelings somewhere? Maybe in the form of a diary or journal? Maybe you like to write poetry? Maybe you could do a blog or podcast too? I really encourage you to think about sending these thoughts and feelings somewhere, even if you don’t share it with anyone else.
Here’s a link to my latest podcast. I hope you enjoy it.
