These feet are made for walking…. or not!

A bit of a tongue in cheek reference to the song by Nancy Sinatra, ‘These boots are made for walking’. Instead ‘These feet are made for walking…’

Yes, feet are made for walking. Or, at least you would assume so. But lately my feet have objected to performing their primary function which is to carry the rest of my body from A to B and all the other letters of the alphabet and back again. It is becoming increasingly frustrating that whoever I tell about the pain in the feet, thinking it is something they can help me with, I get a ‘not me’ kind of response to whether it is their area.

For example:

  • My GP seems not too bothered about my feet, but thinks maybe, just maybe it might be a remnant of the pain I was having in my legs due to my back issues. He agreed to refer me to my Rheumatologist in case it is caused by my arthritis. No real solution or recommendation provided.
  • My Parkinson’s Nurse when I told her I have very sore feet, with toes splaying and getting in strange positions said ‘That won’t be Parkinson’s. Sometimes Parkinson’s can make toes curl under but not sure they do what you are experiencing.’ No solution or recommendation provided.
  • A Podiatrist that I saw through my local MS & Parkinson’s Society said she didn’t know what can be causing the pain and discomfort. She apparently mainly does once a month at the society predominantly cutting toenails. She has suggested silicone toe spacers, but they are uncomfortable and fall out in your shoe. No real solution offered, which I find strange as I thought Podiatrists were all about feet!
  • Yet to speak to the Spinal team at my scheduled follow-up appointment in or around August. I will definitely mention it to them, but not sure what can be done, if they agree it is residual pain from the back injury and surgery. I wait to see if they can do anything when I see them.

So, consulting with all these people and no-one really seems to have much interest in my painful feet. Maybe they are so used to every health thing being a bit catastrophic for me, and so this seems low level and not needing their immediate input. Hopefully, at some point someone with come up with something to assist. In the meantime I rub on some topical cream which seems to alleviate the pain.

These feet are supposed to be made for walking, but they are objecting right now!

They had one job…

Just one job…

And they are falling down on the job..

‘Sighs’…

I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
