Just wrote this wee poem the other day about how things are with me and bowls at the moment.
Here’s the typed version and I will put a link up for the podcast, because I think poems are always better read out. I do take liberties with the English language sometimes, in the interests of finding a rhyme. I’m an old fashioned girl and do like poetry that rhymes.
I've been watching you play
I've been watching you quite closely, Kaiapoi's and Kaiagirls
Watching as you bowl and your bowl gently curls
Why have I been watching, it may be fair to ask
As I can't play myself right now, I gave myself a task
The task that I have started is to watch for hints and tips
Various ways of bowling and seeing different grips
Frustrating it can be, I can't get on the green
My friends want to protect me, they are not being mean
I have to give my back some time, so that I come back strong
And walk one more upon the green where I feel I belong
They've told me not to rush and not come back this season
I must ensure my back is fixed and that is a good reason
Once more I'll stand upon the green, I'll wait until September
And hope I can get back to bowls, I hope I can remember
I've watched you all and I would say that there's so much to learn
For when it is September and I'm back to have my turn
Remember how to bowl them right and send them where I need
I'll get there for next season, that must be guaranteed
I'm keen to join you all once more Kaiagirls and Kaiapoi's
For bowling with you all, is one of life's great joys!
Just a wee bit of fun to share.
