Seeking the positive…

A diagnosis of Parkinson’s may be difficult to put in a positive light, but it is something that I try to do as much as possible. The diagnosis has spurred me on to make the most of life and not to just cruise along doing the same old things. I have made a concerted effort to spend more time with family and with them and also my husband to actively make memories with those that I love.

My husband and I have always been a tight unit and not needed much in the way of external friendships. However, I know that anyone going through challenging times will need support at some stage. Building relationships and strengthening existing ones will pay dividends in the future when we need support. Rather than waiting until we are in crisis, we are building a social network now that we can give and receive support from.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
