From adversity comes strength…

We have now left my husband’s sister’s farm and have travelled to Goathland in Yorkshire. For anyone who doesn’t know, the village was the setting for a programme called “Heartbeat”

We left this morning and we were going well and making good time and looking like getting to Goathland in good time. However, we were soon to be derailed. We were driving along and a car in front of us suddenly braked and indicated. Luckily my husband was able to stop in time unfortunately, however, the car behind us did not! There was an almighty crash as the car behind us did not stop but rammed into the back of our rental car, which in turn shunted us into the car in front.

So, there we were a small Hyundai sandwiched between two large 4WD vehicles. Luckily, we were not badly hurt, although I think I have bruising from my seatbelt. Considering the size of the other two vehicles we were very lucky not to have a worse outcome

My husband swung into action and collected details from the two other drivers. He contacted the rental v company and organized all the necessary things with them like insurance. In the meantime, I checked on the woman who ran into us to see if she was ok. I also checked on the wife of the driver of the front vehicle. All the vehicles were damaged but ours was by far the worst.

Tomorrow we hope to get a replacement vehicle and to continue with our holiday plans. Both my husband and I managed very well in a stressful situation, but we are determined not to let it ruin our holiday.

We had been thinking how well everything had been going with the holiday and this has rocked us – quite understandably – but we will move on from this single stressful event even more determined to make many more good and positive memories.

Tomorrow we will deal with the necessary arrangements and then move forward and put it behind us.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.

  1. Oh dear, scarry times.
I am hoping you are not to sore tomorrow.
My hwp was accidently knocked over, he was fine at the time or he thought he was, but he is very stiff today.
We still managed our walk, not quite as fast but its been a lovely day…
    Take care now.
