I’m writing this post from a Motel room in a beautiful place called Akaroa. We came here yesterday for the night and a bit of a break. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful place on our doorstep. As usual, I have woken in the night and decided to get up and continue to write this entry in my blog. It is now 1.30am and I should be tucked up in bed with my lovely husband. However, I find that if I wake up in the middle of the night, or early morning, if I do something on my computer for half an hour or so, it helps me to be able to go back and get some more sleep.
This post is about my being a bit emotional. I have always been a person who feels things deeply. I am not good about hiding my feelings, so what you see is pretty much what you get. However, since my diagnosis, I find that I am more inclined to have a bit of a wobble to my voice if I read out one of my blog posts. I guess it is because, I am writing about things that are often deeply personal, deeply felt and this is my soul I am baring to the world.
This is the place where I talk about almost all of my thoughts and feelings and I often say that it saved my life. It was about a month following my receiving my diagnosis that I began to write my blog. The reason for doing so was to have somewhere to share my thoughts and feelings. Sometimes, I need to send those thoughts and feelings somewhere so that I can get on with my life. It is interesting that once I send my thoughts to my blog, that whatever was making me feel emotional basically goes away. Many a time, I have asked my husband what he thought about a blog post and he would say that he read it and that – for the most part – that it was very good. Next thing, I would ask him what the post was about and he often struggles to recall the topic. The funny thing is, so do !!
It may sound strange that I have difficulty recalling what a post was about, but when I sit down at my computer to put my thoughts and what I am feeling into my blog, it removes those thoughts and feelings from my consciousness.
I have done a wee podcast about the topic of my emotional response. You can find a link to it below on Spotify. Pop in to the link and see what you think. There are many other posts you might enjoy on ‘My journey with Parkinson’s’ which is on Spotify, Youtube and Apple, there might be thoughts and feelings I express there that you can identify with. I know that it helps me to read about other people’s lives and how Parkinson’s affects them.
Have you thought about a way to deal with the feelings and thoughts you have due to your Parkinson’s? Perhaps writing them down might work for you too. You don’t have to open yourself and your life in a blog and send it out to the world. That is just what I choose to do and is right for me. Even if you get a journal or a diary and write some things down there, it can be a way to express your feelings that is just there for you to look back on. However, setting up a blog and allowing others who are important to you to have access to it, might mean that they all get to understand a little better what is happening for you.
I have included a link below for you to have a listen to my podcast. There are quite a few posts there and I hope that reading or hearing about my journey might help you in dealing with the challenges in your life. There is also a podcast that I do where I interview people with Parkinson’s and their support people. I hope that you take the time to listen to “Parkies Patter – a chat about all things Parkinson’s”. Who knows, you may identify with some of the feelings, thoughts and challenges of the people I interview. There is also a post on “My Journey with Parkinson’s” about emotions which is about my thoughts and feelings. There are many different topics which I have written about that might prove useful for you. Check out below to listen.
