Boating Buddies…

So today we picked up our canal boat on the Lancaster Canal. We had a bit of a driving lesson – is it driving? – and how to turn the boat and moor it up. We have chugged down the canal for a bit to get to know the boat and have tied up at a mooring. Pouring with rain, but thank goodness for wet weather gear.

I think I have been able to help a bit with some of the practicalities. I was able to consult the map and work out where to find a safe mooring. The timing feels right for this trip and I look forward to just my husband and I enjoying quietly pootling along the canal.

One thing we need to work out between us is it I can/should step onto the bank to help tie up the boat. I hope that I can be able to help with this as I don’t want my husband to have to have all the responsibility on this trip. Both of us are a bit nervous about our skills in tieing up the boat, but between us hopefully it will all work out.

Boating Buddies we are and working it out together I’m sure we’ll be ok.

It will be interesting to see whether this will engender anxiety in me or whether if we trust in each other and support each other things will work out ok.

Only time and trying will tell.

I work in health and have been with the same supportive team for over 7 years. They are all aware of my diagnosis and this helps tremendously especially while I get used to the idea of my diagnosis. My parents both had Parkinsons, so I guess my odds were higher than most.
