I have always caused confusion both for myself and my husband and my daughter particularly when it comes to time. The most challenging of all, is trying to get it right when arranging anything to do together. We each have a different concept of what constitutes “this week” or “next week”. Many a time, I have thought I have organised to have my grandchildren to stay, then making a phone call the day before to check all is OK for the next day. To which my daughter would reply, “I thought you said next week!” To which I would reply that when I had spoken to my daughter to make arrangements, the Saturday she was referring to was next week!
So, we have learned over the years in the main to state the day of the week, the date and the time and maybe even add in the venue, just in case I had forgotten that bit too!
This week though it didn’t work unfortunately. Through no fault of her own, I went to Denny’s where we were supposed to be having a family dinner and I waited for my daughter and grand-daughters to arrive. I waited and I waited and I waited. Twenty minutes after the appointed hour, I rang my daughter and said, “where are you?” To which she replied that she was at her friends house. I said, “but we are supposed to be having the family birthday at Denny’s” She sighed deeply and said “That is next week!” She sounded exasperated and said, “I reminded you three times Mum!” I felt awful and stupid for messing it up.
I got into my car and felt like crying. Is this yet another little blip that points to my deterioration? I guess it probably is, but it is scary all the same. But, knowing that I have had this issue for years before being diagnosed, so maybe the decline is not as swift as I think.
I will just have to make sure I write everything down on my timetable on the fridge.
Here’s a bit of a podcast about the topic too, with a few more thoughts!
