Seeing your GP, Specialist or Physio/Allied Health

As we go down this road with Parkinson’s as the unwelcome hitchhiker that they are, we need to develop strategies to make the most of opportunities for help. One of the situations that it is important that we get right, is when we find ourselves in front of a medical professional or allied health.

I always recommend taking a notebook with questions to the appointment and also to write down any important information that you need to recall. I also recommend taking another set of ears with you, in the form of someone who will support you and can ask questions if you feel unable. They can also assist in recalling the information provided, as often this can be a challenge for people with Parkinson’s.

Here’s a post on my podcast with more information.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
