The evolution of underwear – A poem and a Podcast

When I am stressed, I write poetry. I must be very stressed right now because I wrote three yesterday. I felt only two were suitable to be shared at the moment.

For those of you who like to listen to me read my poems you can click below, or go to Spotify, Youtube and Apple Podcasts.

For those of you who like to read my poetry in your own voice it is below.

The evolution of underwear.

When I was young, I tried wearing a thong
Tended to ride up where they didn’t belong

Next was the turn of bikini knickers
Reading this out I can feel all the snickers

Along came a pant much kinder to wear
Boy leg pants are much better I swear

Buying some pants and I rushed out the store
Full briefs by accident, like Mum always wore

Looked down in horror, the pants were much bigger
May as well try them, might be comfy I figure!

Then came the minute I put pants on my bod
Something then happened, really quite odd

Hmmm, I then thought ‘Mum had something there’
Such comfy and cosy Mum full underwear

How did I go from my wearing a thong
To full Nanna knickers, do I really belong?

Then when I look in the mirror and see
A fully briefed Woman, that Nanna is me

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
