My life and other stuff…

I feel that my life is ever growing and changing. I can see how people who retire say they don’t know how they had ever had the time to work! However, I know that there have been things that I have wanted to do for ages and couldn’t because they were not possible with a job to do. I hope for most people, that it is a time when they can retire from work and find new joy and freedom in retirement.

That last sentence that I wrote about finding new joy and freedom in retirement, I certainly felt that for about the first month or so. I even said to my husband one day that I was feeling very happy and contented. Wrong move and it temped fate, so of course something happened that has taken away my happiness and contentment. This was an injury to my back. I’m not going to go on about it as I have mentioned it in other posts, but it certainly has derailed our lives for about 4 months now. But at least I am now on the list for surgery and hopefully it will happen in the next few months.

Now let’s look at ‘My life with Parkinson’s and other stuff’ . This is the title of my new venture which is making a podcast about my Parkinson’s and also getting some of my poems out there as well.

Way back over 20 years ago, when I first came to Christchurch I went to the NZ School of Broadcasting and learnt many facets of radio. I had been a co-host on a breakfast show in Levin prior to that. I’m hoping that some of that training will come back to me in this podcast. I may have some guests from time to time talking about whatever topic we are looking at, but that will be some time away, while I get to grips with things.

I’m afraid I have neglected this blog a bit, but that is mainly because of my pain. I am still working on getting my book ‘Dad’s turn to learn – a child’s journey through through their father’s stroke’ into the community. The trouble is, I can’t get around to meet with people right now because I can’t drive. I am, however, meeting with a couple of lovely ladies from the school that is really close to us and they have agreed to come to our home as it is difficult for me to get places. At least the money is safely in the bank from the ‘Boosted’ campaign but it may need to waiit a bit in there until I am more mobile and able to drive.

I look forward to sharing my podcast with you and will find out where to from here and how you can get hold of it. I am such a novice, that I’m not completely sure about where and how I get my podcast out there, but again there is no need to rush. I have started to remember how to edit from my time at broadcasting school, so that is one handy skill I have hopefully retained.

Well, I am starting to nod off as I type this.

I think my body is telling me it’s time for bed. One telling sign is when I nod off with my finger on a letter and we get a line of gggggggggggggg or something!

Zzzzz

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.

    1. Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I am very much trying to keep my mind busy and to achieve something every day. I am very limited physically, but have to recognise that, even if it is a small thing that I can’t do due to fatigue and pain. The happier more positive me will emerge once more after my operation.
