I’m loving my new life…

Just waiting for dinner to cook and I suddenly thought to myself, “I love my new life!” It just popped into my head randomly. My new life of course is my now retired life and I am finding being retired very positive.

There are lots of things I like about it, but one thing that I am grateful for is that I have been able to provide support for family members with their own health issues, that I wouldn’t have been able to do prior to retirement. An important part of the decision to retire was to be there for my family, to share the joyful times and to be there for them in the difficult times. My timing has been perfect enabling me to be able to provide real, practical support as well as emotional support.

In addition, having joined the local Bowling Club has worked out far better than I could have imagined. The club members have been welcoming and helpful and supportive. I seem to have clicked with a few of the women and have been invited out for lunch this week with a bunch of them. I am literally now one of ‘the ladies who lunch!’ All good fun and building social connections which I love.

I also have a couple of book projects that I am now able to bring to fruition, which I was unable to have the time to do while working. But that’s a topic for a further Blog post as I introduce the details of the project when the time is right. Watch this space because it is coming soon!

This week I have also done some baking which has pleased my husband and my uncle who both scored some homemade shortbread dipped in chocolate. Of course, I too had to sample it. I must say it is rather delicious.

In a few weeks we fly to Wellington to see my son, his wife and their gorgeous three boys. So much to look forward to at the moment and I am enjoying having the space and time to experience a positive lifestyle change upon retiring.

I never thought I would have looked forward to retiring as much as I did!

At this stage I would say, it is a very special time where I can choose my path and not be bound by an employer on what I do with that time.

Retirement rocks!

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.

  1. I have been retired for some time – almost 9 years. It is a big life change. My father referred to it as having a whole week full of Saturdays. 🙂 These days with Cheryl gone that view is changing again. Good luck to you! Enjoy lunch!

    1. I am really enjoying my freedom of not having to answer to an employer. I still timetable my life, but it’s for things I want to do and as it’s my choice I can decide whether or not I do something on any day of the week.
