Now that I am a retired person, my time predominantly is my own to do with as I see fit. It is taking a little getting used to, but I think I am adjusting reasonably well. However, there are things I want to do and things that I want to achieve that require careful planning if I am to do the things that I want to do – such as playing bowls – as well as the things I need to do, such as exercise.
So, now I am trying to work out what things I need to do as part of my bowls membership and also what Parkinson’s related activities I am willing and able to participate in.
I find myself becoming a bit of a bowling nerd. I realised yesterday that my husband was sitting in his study watching videos of various guitar playing tutorials, while I was in mine watching tutorials on how to play bowls. It is good that we both have the space and time to do these things, because they are very important to both of us. We both need our space – much as we love being together – and being able to pursue our own interests.
I am in the process of working out how I fit everything into my schedule, so that I can achieve what I want to achieve.
I had an appointment for an assessment at the MS & Parkinson’s Society yesterday. He gave me some exercises to do, which I told him I would most likely forget as soon as I walked out the door, which I have. I had asked him to send me something to show we what to do, but I am still waiting. Also, apparently the Tai Chi classes are shifting, but he didn’t know to what day and time, so that’s not particularly helpful for planning my life. I guess I will just have to be proactive and contact the society to find out.
Who knew that retirement needed to be so organised!
Hopefully, soon I will have a better idea of what life looks like for me and happily move through retirement with my social and physical needs being addressed.
Retirement so far is pretty good.
I am definitely a fan!
