A funny little poem, from my happy place to yours

I have been asked to share a poem by one of my followers. My poetry is usually lighthearted and this is one example.

This was inspired by a lack of teaspoons at a job I was working at briefly. I hope you like it.

Ode to the teaspoon

I tried to find a teaspoon, to stir my morning drink
I searched in all the drawers and in the kitchen sink

I looked in all the cupboards, I even scanned the floor
I checked out the whole kitchen and looked behind the door

I couldn’t find a teaspoon, not matter where I sought
My teaspoon quest was full of woe, my efforts came to naught

The time ticked by, my thirst increased, so too my desperation
I simply want to stir my drink, I fumed in my frustration

T’would seem to me a simple thing to seek this small utensil
Perhaps I’d need to improvise, with knife or fork or pencil

But now to solve this problem, now here’s my gift to you
A firmly tethered teaspoon to stir your favourite brew

The only problem with it, the flaw in my design
For those who need to use it, you’ll need to stand in line

‘Tis not too big an issue for stirring of a drink
But yoghurt eating snackers, must do it at the sink

And if too many people all answer hunger’s call
The hopeful teaspoon seekers could stretch out to the hall

So maybe we will need a teaspoon usage rota…
Or hope the DHB increase our teaspoon quota!

(Just a silly something to brighten your day!)

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
