Recently diagnosed with Parkinsons' this Blog is about my personal experience with getting a diagnosis, dealing with the diagnosis and what has helped me. It is hoped that by sharing my experiences, I can encourage others to take the step to seek a diagnosis and to find a way to 'live well' with a path we did not choose, but that we must walk. I call it "Parkies" because it makes it sound a little less serious and maybe even a bit "friendly" for if I cannot avoid the association I can perhaps find a way to walk with it.
Just a little heads up if you are coming to the UK. Many public toilets charge as much as 50p to access them.
We are in Fort William in Scotland. Female toilets open but I didn’t have 50p. Plus I object to paying for it! Also of note is that the disabled toilets were locked! So double whammy if you had mobility issues and no coins. They also don’t give change so if we only had a 1 pound coin my husband could go but not get change to pass on to me!

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful. View more posts
