Interview with Sandra

A few months ago I put a call out for people to be interviewed for “Parkies Patter – a chat about all things Parkinson’s” The idea is to get people who are living with Parkinson’s to tell their stories. This blog and my podcasts are partly my story, but what is hugely important to me since the very moment I was diagnosed, was that I wanted to help others through their lives with Parkinson’s. By offering to record their stories, I hoped that they would benefit from the telling and it might go some way towards people having more knowledge about the condition.

I always feel privileged when people agree to be interviewed for my podcast, as it is a big thing to talk about something that affects their whole lives. Not just the person diagnosed, but also those who love them.

Below is a link to my interview with Sandra. I have applied minimal editing as I wanted to keep this as real as possible. We are, after all, two people with Parkinson’s and our voices are not going to be perfect. But, I hope with patience on both sides and respect for each other, the interview, will give some insight on how it feels to live with this condition for over 20+ years.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
