Social Work ears…

Having trained and worked as a Social Worker for 20+ years, it is difficult to completely leave that world and that way of thinking at times. People often don’t know what we do and the answer is that there are a wide range of things we do, depending on where we work. A big part of my job was listening. Not the sort of listening you might do when talking with a friend, but active listening, where you listen for clues to get some information from them so you can help them. It’s a hard habit to break.

Having been in hospital for a back operation, just over a week ago, I have some observations I thought I would make on my time in hospital as a patient rather than a Social Worker. It was the longest stint in hospital I have ever had, just on one week.

So, here is a wee podcast that you might like.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
