Acts of service – love in a fruitcake

I wrote a blog about this topic many years ago. It came out of a brief counselling session my now husband and I had right at the beginning of our trying to get to know and understand each other. What can I say? It’s a work in progress…

Acts of service are the way some people say ‘I love you’ if they can’t quite voice it. From the smallest of things, to the larger things that we can do for each other, they can be acts of service.

If you have time, listen to the podcast, it made me smile thinking about how ‘love in a fruitcake’ came to be one of my fondest memories of my Social Work career.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
