For anyone who has ever had a pet, we tend to think of them as not just an animal, but one of the family. They are usually fed and cared for just like you would feed and care for them if they were your children.
Today we had our beautiful, crazy cat Gidget ‘put to sleep’ and this is the term we have always used. The vet, however, talked to us about Euthanizing her, which sounded so harsh to my ears.
Gidget had been my son’s cat and we inherited her four years ago when my son died suddenly in his sleep. She used to sleep on his bed, so I know she was with him when he passed. That was part of the reason she was to special to my husband and I. So, when we knew we had to part with her we were both with her and talking to her as she left us. She was peaceful as she left us, as we both wept silently mourning her passing.
Gidget had been fortunate to have Adam’s love exclusively for 10 years and then another 4 years with us. She was well loved by everyone in the family and will be really missed. A family member had their dog ‘put to sleep’ recently too and a comment was made that he ‘was just like a member of the family’ and I disputed that, a pet is not ‘like’ a member of the family, they are a member of the family.

A couple of photos of our beautiful girl. I am holding her, but it was no mean feat to get the photo. Much as she loved me, she would never like being picked up and held, so my husband had to be quick about taking the photo.
Farewell little girl. I hope you and Adam are together somewhere.
So sorry to hear about Gidget. It is never a good feeling when you have to put a pet to sleep. We had to have our cat put to sleep about 3 years ago and decided not to get any more pets as we like to travel. I’m sure she will find your son and they can have forever hugs and cuddles.

Thank you. She was gorgeous and could be very feisty at times. One minute purring and licking the next trying to bite or scratch you, but the bites would not be serious ones, just a reminder that she didn’t like something you were doing. She will be missed. I had my shower this morning and normally she would sit outside peering through the glass at me. RIP Gidget.
