Well. After months of waiting, I had my full right knee surgery on Wednesday, I am still in hospital and will be discharging tomorrow. I will have had three nights in hospital.
I am sore but that is to be expected, The nurses and hospital aids have been so supportive and have made sure that my pain is well under control,
I got up on the day of the operation and was surprised that I could put quite a lot of weight on my new knee. I had a lot of supervision the first day and a half when mobilising. But by last night I was able to go to the toilet independently and unsupervised.
In hospital it is a rule that you are not able to take your own medications. I have to ask the nurse for my meds when I need them. This has worked quite well and there have been no concerns regarding the management of my meds.
I have been pleasantly surprised with my recovery from surgery. Usually I have about a week of feeling like I have the flu. This time I seem to be recovering better from the anaesthetic and thank goodness no nausea or vomiting. The food is good too, so all in all it has been positive experience
I was concerned that the operation might make my Parkies worse. But luckily all is well. I hope over the next few weeks that my knee and leg muscles get stronger and I will soon be walking unaided. Then I should be able to join my lovely husband on river walks and get out in nature again.
I need to make sure I do my therapy and am determined to do so.
Road to recovery here I come!
