Serendipity

Today I am feeling particularly blessed. I have had lunch with my beautiful daughter on a beautiful Spring day and all feels right with my world.

At lunch we were chatting and I was talking about how lucky we are to have such nice neighbours who looked after our house – together with my Cousin – while we were away in the UK. They mowed our lawns, picked up leaves, weed sprayed and generally kept a watch over our home. They have become friends, not just neighbours and we have had a few dinners together and drinks and we all enjoy each other’s company. I was saying to my daughter at lunch today that we have spent more time with our new neighbours than we ever did with our previous neighbours in the 10 years or so we were there. My cousin too, who I have spent more time with since we moved than ever before. Her friendship is a gift and I am very grateful she chooses to share her time with me when she can.

Driving home, as soon as I came into our little town I had to smile because this place just feels like home now. Driving into the street our little lane comes off, I remembered how pretty it was in Spring last year with the blossom trees lining each side of the road.

I started to think about what brought us to move into this neighbourhood, in this town and with our lovely neighbours. The answer to that question is of course, Parkies! If not for Parkies we would still be in our two-storey home in Parklands. We loved that home, but at some stage we would probably have had to sell it anyway as we got older and stairs became a problem for either of us. But, if we had sold it later than we did, we wouldn’t have found the beautiful home we now have. We wouldn’t have the wonderful neighbours, or be closer to my cousin who I am now able to spend much more time with.

So, Parkies has done us a favour. It is serendipitous that by trying to find a more future proof environment, we have found the perfect home and amazing neighbours and lovely new town to live in. If not for Parkies it would probably not have happened and if we had moved at a different time we could have ended up somewhere totally different.

So, I am thankful to Parkies for giving us the push to move when we did. I love living where we are living. I love our gardens which we have created pretty much from scratch. I love the neighbourhood and the town.

This is my forever happy place.

Serendipity.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
