Arrogant Assumptions…

I feel I am naturally programmed to advocate for people. Not just for people I work with as a Social Worker, but also in life. The reason for the title for this particular post is that there are a number of arrogant assumptions in this world, that I really find I need to challenge.

I often speak about the arrogance of many organisations these days in thinking that everyone uses and understands technology.  ‘Card to Call’ cards get left in letterboxes with no phone number to call to get a package redelivered.  The only options are to go online to arrange for the package to be redelivered or to also go online and arrange to pick up the package from the depot.  For many elderly people and for some who are not accustomed to technology, this can cause major issues.  Those issues are not just that they have to be able to access a computer, but also they may be unable to drive to get their package. If there is no-one to help them, how do they get their package?

So, I have been thinking of putting my posts in book form, so that they can be available to more people. People who may be older and newly diagnosed, may still find some comfort and connection in reading my book, should I produce one. My thought processes are still in the very early stages, but I’m hoping I can find a way to make it happen. It is important to me that through my words and experiences I can help others. There will be people out there who cannot access a computer or understand how to access a Blog – or indeed what a Blog is – and I hope to reach them too.  I do not want to be another person assuming that anyone who would benefit from reading my Blog can necessarily access it online.

It is only a wee germ of an idea at the moment and just one of many projects I am undertaking. I hope that if all goes well, there will be a book at some stage that might just help people I wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.

  1. Yay..a great idea.
My husband with PD struggles to deal with the exact things you mention.
Even our local hospitals telephone system.
This has a series of voice prompts, that give you a matter of seconds to respond to, by the time he has listened, digested and goes to give his choice, his call is disconnected..
    Thanks for your thoughts..🥰
