The Bard’s Beautiful Backyard….

The UK trip continues as we start to wind down towards the end of our holiday. My husband had a bit of an errand to do in Warwick, so he suggested a night away in Stratford Upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, which is nearby.

I have to say, my husband is an expert in knowing just the right thing to do on this holiday. I have loved Shakespeare forever and I know he planned this overnight trip mostly for my sake. However, he had never been there either so it was nice to discover it together.

We walked around the town and I was struck by the beauty of the Tudor Style buildings. I couldn’t keep the smile off my face as I said ‘the buildings are beyond beautiful, they are amazing’. We visited the house he was born in and I became quite emotional being there. I really am getting soft in my old age!

We had a nice meal at night and a wander around the city again today. We visited his grave today too, so we have seen the place of his birth and where he was laid to rest.

This was something to tick off my bucket list that I didn’t even know was on it! My husband knows me so well that he knew that I would love it. I am so grateful for his care and consideration on this UK adventure of ours. It has been full of wonderful memories and experiences that we will hold dear all the rest of our days.

I am finding that with the heat and with my sore knee I seem to be tiring easier than previously. However, we have been pacing ourselves and resting reasonably regularly so managing. Regular fluids and carrying a water bottle and trying to take my medications at the appropriate times also helps.

I have put some photos of Stratford Upon Avon, so you can get an idea of what an amazing place it is to visit.

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
