I tried to write a poem
But my mind just has a blank

I tried to write a poem
There’s no words in the tank

I tried to write a poem
The sort of one that rhymes

I tried to write a poem
And tried to several times

I tried to write a poem
A task that once was easy

I tried to write a poem
To share it makes me queasy

I tried to write a poem
I tried it more than once

I tried to write a poem
I feel like such a dunce

I tried to write a poem
But thoughts they just kept hiding

I tried to write a poem
My talent’s not abiding

I tried to write a poem
To share upon my Blog

I tried to write a poem
But it became a slog

I tried to write a poem
But it’s coming out like Shit

I tried to write a poem
And sadly this is it!

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
