A Poem about Parkies

 I've always written poems
It’s just been what I do

But this will be a poem
 Of something that’s quite new

 My poems; they are mostly
 Designed to raise a laugh

 But with this subject matter
It’s more than a job and a half

 I can’t say the diagnosis
 Has been so unexpected

 My parents also had it
 So, I’ve always been affected

 So Parkies is the name
 I’ve given my condition

To live my life and love my life
 Will now become my mission

Although I know, there will be days
When times will be quite tough

Those I love will be with me
 And that will be enough

So if you too have Parkies
Or whatever name you give it

It doesn’t matter what it’s called
It matters how you live it

I am a retired Social Worker having retired in May 2024. I had been a Social Worker for over 20 years and for the sake of my health and wellbeing I chose to retire early. I have some literary projects underway and am enjoying the freedom of no longer working. Working on my projects at my own pace and enjoying my new hobby of lawn bowls is a wonderful thing. No regrets and a new kind of busy in retirement is wonderful.
